How do you typically resolve conflict? I feel this has evolved form me as I get older. When I was younger I would avoid and let feelings fester. Now, I have learned a better skill set to deal with conflict and I try to teach this to my children. In our home, when there is a conflict we sit down and have a family meeting. We all have a chance to talk about how we feel and ultimately try to compromise on the area of conflict. Most times this works rather well.

I ranked highest in competition and compromise, I actually scored 13 in both of these categories.
I ranked mid range in avoidance and accommodate scoring 11 in both of these categories.
I ranked low in collaborate scoring 10 in this category.

Describe a time when you decided to express your feelings in a conflict. As a parent, there are conflicts that come up all the time while raising children. Our family has conflicts about various things. One scenario was with my daughters cell phone usage. I had given her clear instructions on the amount of time she could spend on it. When the time came to put the cell phone away, she grew rather upset and refused. Why did you decide to speak up? I decided to speak up because it was a rule that we made for our children. Introduction to inventor Walter Diemer

I have selected Walter Diemer as my inventor of choice. I wanted to select something that would be fun to learn more about, as well as something that is very relatable to my audience. Chewing gum has been around for a very long time, but it has evolved to create what we have today. Walter Diemer was the inventor of bubble gum as we know it. Bubble gum is a very common thing, but my audience members may not know how bubble gum came to be. Specific purpose statement: The purpose of my speech is to educate my audience on the evolution of chewing gum and how it came to be bubble gum. In addition, sharing how perseverance and goal setting can pay off. Thesis statement: Bubble gum has become a favorite to chew for many years and it will continue to be because of people like Walter Diemer.

Learning Plan 3-Understanding Yourself The 5 things that I am most proud of relating to myself would be: 1. Ability to preserver 2. Dedication to my education and family 3. Patience 4. Being a parent 5. Being non-traditional student Of the five things listed above, the one I do the best would be my ability to be patient. It was difficult to pick one of the five because all the those listed are of significance in this season of my life. I believe patience is the one I do the best because it is something that I have practiced daily with my children, with my husband, within my job, and with myself.
